Der prinzipielle Aufbau der Filtrationsanlagen entspricht dem der Ionenaustauscheranlagen, dass heißt sie bestehen aus den Baugruppen Ventile, Drucktanks, Steuerung und Verrohrung. Im Gegensatz zu den Enthärtungs-, Teil- und Vollentsalzungsanlagen besteht die Füllung der Filtrationsanlagen allerdings nicht aus Ionenaustauschermaterial, sondern aus Kies oder speziellem Material zur Entfernung von Schwebstoffen, gelöstem Eisen oder gelöstem Mangan. 0,5–5,0 m3/h
